Cheetahs, the fastest running land animals on Earth, can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3 seconds, but how do they do it in the first place? Firstly, these animals have light bodies, and strong muscles. If that doesn’t sound like enough to you, let me tell you their ultimate secret of running: to accelerate, only one foot has to be touching the ground, therefore one of these animals could put a foot on the ground, leap forward, simultaneously slam their other foot on the ground, and repeat the process.
However, having significant speed comes with some drawbacks. Firstly, the light weight that gives cheetahs their capability of running swiftly, doesn’t come in handy when fighting with other predators. Additionally, running fast uses significantly more energy than walking, forcing cheetahs to rest often. In conclusion, although cheetahs run at very high speeds, there are several drawbacks.
