Chess is an ancient Indian strategy board game played between two individuals. Chess is played on a 64-square square board and each player has an “army” of 16 pieces: one king, a queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights, and eight pawns. Each seeks to checkmate the king of the opponent, which is to surround it so that it cannot be captured. Being a game of no concealed information or element of chance, the outcome of the game is entirely based on a player’s ability to strategize and foretell their opponent’s next action and adopt sophisticated tactical deployments.
